Helen Murray Bultman, 86, loving wife of 67 years to Deuward G.F. Bultman, Jr., and mother and devoted community volunteer, died Thursday, April 13, 2017, at her home. Born in West Palm Beach, Florida, she was the daughter of Wilbur Thomas Murray and Helen Wylly Murray. She graduated from Edmunds High School, where she was secretary of the student council and president of the senior class. She attended Queens College in Charlotte, North Carolina and was a member of Phi Mu sorority and Valkyrie Society. Helen was a sustaining member of the Junior Welfare League, where she served as secretary. She was a member of The Book Club and a member of the Assembly. Helen was also a member of St. James Lutheran Church, where she was president of the WELC, taught Sunday school, Bible school and confirmation classes. She served on the altar guild, archives and funeral committees. In 1975, then South Carolina governor James B. Edwards appointed her to a newly created statewide judicial nominating committee. Helen is survived by her husband; five children: Kathy Bultman Ardis, Tommy Bultman, and Elizabeth Bultman, all of Sumter, Bud Bultman of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Susan Bultman McGee of Greenwood; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Private graveside services will be held at the Sumter Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at St. James Lutheran Church on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Keith Getz officiating. Visitation will be held in the church fellowship hall following the service and at other times at the home of her daughter, Kathy Ardis.
