Obituary of Ellen Whaley Stevens

Ellen Whaley Stevens, 65, widow of Dr. Constantine Yates “Stevie” Stevens, died Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at Palmetto Health Tuomey Hospital. 

 

Ellen was born in Charleston, SC on August 6, 1952.  She was the daughter of the late John Seabrook Whaley and the late Mary Townsend Whaley.

 

Mrs. Stevens was a member of the Church of the Holy Comforter Anglican and a former member of St. John’s Anglican Church on John’s Island. She graduated from Palmer College.  She was a member of the Sea Island Yacht Club.  She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and grandmother.    

 

Survivors include a son, Mikell Yates Stevens (Brett) of Columbia; a daughter, Elizabeth S. McInnis (Justin) of Charleston; a grandson, James Mikell Stevens; a sister, Susan Whaley Hanckel (Bill) of Wadmalaw Island; a sister-in-law, Heidi S. Whaley; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

She is predeceased by two brothers, John Seabrook Whaley, Jr and Charles Townsend Whaley. 

 

Memorial Services will be held at 1 P.M. Saturday at St. John’s Anglican Church on John’s Island, SC.

 

Burial will follow in the churchyard.

 

The family will receive friends following the graveside service in Walton Hall at St. John’s Anglican Church. 

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Church of the Holy Comforter Anglican, 213 N. Main St., Sumter, SC 29150.
