Obituary of Mary Ann Kissock

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mrs. Mary Ann Hope Kissock passed away peacefully, with family, on January 17, 2025. A native of Sumter, SC, she was the daughter of James & Nan (Crowder) Hope, sister of Harriet Hope, and wife to Donald (Don) Kissock (deceased). Mary Ann is survived by her son Donald, grandsons Greyson and Declan, sister Harriet and niece Jennifer, as well as extended family. Family was always a priority for Mary Ann, whether close or extended. Uncovering family history and heritage was an important and continuous project. Music was her other passion. Having started playing piano at an early age, her love for music (especially classical music) grew, leading to her music degree from Winthrop College in 1963. Throughout her adult life, in addition to her roles as wife and mother, Mary Ann taught piano privately, and was involved in music in many various ways, including her church choir, choral societies and music clubs. After college, Mary Ann worked for U.S. Steel and Burroughs Corp. until becoming a stay-at-home mother, which allowed her to also teach piano. The majority of time was spent living in the Chicago area, where motherhood, friends, and involvement in numerous music and philanthropic organizations fulfilled her interests. She returned to the workforce as Office Manager for the Guidance department at Glenbrook North High School until her retirement. Mary Ann also loved to reunite with her close friends from Winthrop and enjoyed traveling to various places of interest throughout the years, including multiple trips to Europe and Asia. Upon retirement, Mary Ann and Don relocated to the Dallas, TX area to be near their son and his family. In addition to enjoying time with grandsons, Mary Ann remained active in music clubs, choir and community organizations. Beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, niece, and friend, she is missed. Mary Ann was age 83 at the time of her passing.
