Obituary of Richard Keith Taylor
Please share a memory of Richard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War Richard Keith Taylor, 74, of Sumter, S.C., died Jan. 17, 2025.
Mr. Taylor was born Aug. 18, 1950, in Taylor, Pennsylvania, to the late William A. and Helen (nee Taylor) Taylor.
Richard, who many in the Sumter area knew as Rick, served in the Air Force and was stationed at RAF Bentwaters in England, prior to being sent to Vietnam.
After years of searching for Richard, his daughter, Georgette, met him on Feb. 12, 2023. They hit it off instantly. One look at them, you know they are father and daughter. Richard met three of his four grandchildren and son-in-law in 2024, when Georgette and her family came from England to visit.
People in the neighborhood remember him as “Mr. Rick” and he used to let kids fish from his dock.
In addition to his parents, Richard was predeceased by siblings Nancy Margheriti, Janet Taylor, Laura Bratlee and Robert Taylor, his uncle Richard Taylor, and other aunts and uncles.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Georgette and Mark Dawson of Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, England; a brother- and sister-in-law, Scott and Diane Taylor, of Louisiana; and four grandchildren, Bradley, Lewis, Jayden and Emily Dawson, of Bury St Edmunds.
A memorial service with military honors will be at noon Wednesday at Concord Baptist Church, 1885 Myrtle Beach Highway, Sumter, S.C. A light meal will follow the service.
Richard will be inurned at 10 A.M. Thursday at Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia.
