Obituary of Edward Eugene Boykin

Edward Eugene “Gene” Boykin, 80, widower of Gloria Jean Dickerson Boykin, died Monday, March 3, 2025, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital. Born in Lancaster County, he was a son of the late Paskell Woodward Boykin and Bernice Lowery Boykin. Mr. Boykin was a member of Westside Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon, the Elks Lodge #855, and was past President of the Gamecock Strutters Club. He was a retired insurance agent for over 40 years. Surviving are two sons, Robert Edward Boykin (Sandra Beck) of Bishopville and Christopher Edward Boykin (Randy Harper) of Charleston; one daughter, Lori Anne Coley of Sumter; one brother, Avery Woodward Boykin of Sumter; one sister, Debbie Anderson (Terry) of Sumter; four grandchildren, Serena Boykin Buss (Michael), Brandi Elizabeth Coley, Brandon Alan Coley, and Samantha Mae Boykin (Barbara); five great-grandchildren, Madelyn Buss, Amelia Buss, Ryan Buss, Maddox Coley, Riley Boykin; his companion, Marian Willette, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Linda Juanita Whitaker and Darlene Boykin Timmons; a sister-in-law, Gayle Boykin; a daughter-in-law, Renee W. Boykin. Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Westside Baptist Church with Rev. Aaron Reed officiating. Burial will follow in the Sumter Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M.
