Obituary of James H. Compton

James H. Compton, 83, died Saturday March 22, 2025. Born in Sumter he was a son of the late James Arthur Compton and Gladys Byrd Compton. Mr. Compton was a member of the First Pentecostal Holiness Church and was retired from Sumter Utilities. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. Surviving are two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Hair and Geraldine Ward; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Frances Compton. Graveside Services will be held at 2 PM Tuesday in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors and the Rev. Brett Gardner officiating. The family will receive friends following the graveside service and other times the home of his sister, Elizabeth Hair.
