Obituary of Woodson W. Hurt

Woodson W. “Woody” Hurt, 88, widower of Shirley Stephens Hurt, died Friday, April 25, 2025, at his home. Born in Edmonton, KY, he was a son of the late Charles Hurt and Dimple Walbert Smith. Mr. Hurt was a member of Westside Baptist Church and the Sumter Elks Lodge #855. He was a retired U.S. Air Force veteran and also later retired from Lowe’s. Surviving are two daughters, Kathy Robinson (Robbie) and Kimberly Hurt all of Sumter; eight grandchildren, Linsey Cooke (Jason), Nicole Fierro (Ziggy), Lacey Curry (Adam), Jesse Chambers (Chris), Nathan Robinson (Alex), David Chambers, Cassie Scott (Bryan), Micah Robinson; 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Darlene Buchko and Billie Murphey; a grandson, Rowan Russo; and a brother, Charles Hurt. Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Monday, April 28, 2025, in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Burleson officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 P.M. to 2 P.M. Monday, April 28, 2025, at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Sumter Elks Lodge.
