Obituary of Arcadia "Katy" Lynn Morris Greenawalt

Arcadia “Katy” Lynn Morris Greenawalt, 77, wife of (Ret. Lt. Col. USAF) Rodgers Kenyon Greenawalt, died, Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital. Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, she was a daughter of the late Everett Lee Morris (Carolyn) and Arvis Lauren Stewart Morris. Katy met Rodgers, the summer of 1965, in Maryland, where they fell in love and married on June 17, 1967. Where she was an active and dedicated military wife for 24 years. Mrs. Greenawalt was a member of Sumter Methodist Church. She was active and taught Sunday school at Trinity United Methodist Church for over 30 years. Mrs. Greenawalt was active in the community serving on the Sumter Housing Authority Board of Commissioners, Director of Bethel Baptist Preschool and Kindergarten and the founding Executive Director of Sumter United Ministries. For her service and love for the Sumter community, she was awarded the Order of the Silver Crescent in 2005 from Governor Sanford. She attended the University of Maryland, and was a life time learner and passionate about art, music, floral design, cake decorating and anything else she was curious about. Surviving are her husband; a daughter, Lauren Noble (Ron); a son, Rodgers K. Greenawalt, Jr. (Daniele); two brothers, Lee Morris (Marilyn) and Mike Morris (Mary); five grandchildren, Peyton Newman (Tyler), Melanie Noble, Amy Noble, Emma Greenawalt and Allie Noble; a brother in law, Mike Buchholz, as well as a number of beloved nieces, nephews and other special relatiaves. She was preceded in death by a sister, Melanie Buchholz, a brother, John Riley Morris, along with many special family members and close friends. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 PM Sunday, May 11, 2025, at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held at 10 AM Monday, May 12, 2025, in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Bouknight officiating. Burial will be at 1 PM Monday, May 12, 2025, in the Fort Jackson National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sumter Methodist Church, c/o Gwen McElveen, 50 Mere Ct.
