Obituary of Eugene "Mac" Belton McLeod, Jr.

PINEWOOD - Eugene Belton “Mac” McLeod, Jr., 76, husband of Joan “Joanie” Simms McLeod, died Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital. Born in Sumter, SC, Mac was the son of the late Eugene B. McLeod Sr. and Sadie Aycock McLeod. A graduate of Tulane University and the University of South Carolina, Mac served his community with dedication through several terms in the South Carolina House of Representatives and was a retired Program Coordinator and architect for the Opportunity Scholars Program at the University of South Carolina Sumter. He was known for his integrity, thoughtful leadership, and commitment to public service. Mr. McLeod was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Surviving is his wife; two sons, E. B. “Trey” McLeod, III (Kimberly) and Sean McLeod (Brittany); a daughter, Elizabeth McLeod; two brothers, Ken McLeod (Cindy) and Walter McLeod (Tammy); a sister, Helen Lee (Wedrell) and four grandchildren, MJ, Molly, Mac and Eve. He was preceded in death by a sister, Fair McLeod Edmunds. Funeral Services will be held at 3 P.M. Friday, June 13, 2025, at Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. Paul Frey officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 P.M. to 3 P.M. Friday at the church prior to the service. Burial will be private. Memorials may be made to the Opportunity Scholars Program at The University of South Carolina Sumter.
