Obituary of Wayne Moore

Please share a memory of Wayne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Charles Wayne Moore, 73, husband of Elise Sharp Moore was born in Sumter, SC, February 22, 1952 and died Friday July 11, 2025, after a long illness. His parents, who predeceased him, were Charlie and Kay Moore of Sumter. He grew up in Sumter and graduated from Edmunds High School, Class of 1970. A music lover, he was the first lead singer in the Nomads, a local rock and roll band. While in high school he gained early work experience at the Capitol department store. One of his great joys was being on the water whether it was riding on the Waccamaw River in his Jon boat with his family or putting his Hobie Cat in the water at Pawleys Pier for a day on the ocean. He attended Clemson University and graduated from Baptist College at Charleston with a degree in Business Administration. He had a long and successful career at Suburban Propane Gas, Inc. and early on became manager of the Hartsville, SC operation. In addition to those responsibilities, in the late 1980’s he developed and managed the small cylinder department, a new branch of the company. After his career in the gas business he retired to Columbia, SC then to Pawleys Island and Mount Pleasant. He adored his wife, Elise Sharp Moore to whom he was married for nearly 50 years. The couple have two loving sons, Charles “Chad” Wayne Moore, Jr. and Peter Glen Rutherford “Ford” Moore. The light of his life became his young granddaughters, Kat and Lucy Moore, children of Ford Moore and Sarah Mount. During his illness, Wayne was lovingly attended and cared for by his sister and brother Judy Moore of Columbia and Gary Moore of Charlotte, as well as his wife and sons Chad and Ford. In addition to these family members, he will be remembered by his beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and the friends he leaves behind. Memorial and Graveside Services will be held at 11 A.M. Monday, July 14, 2025, in the Sumter Cemetery with Rev. Angela Marshall officiating. Please consider contributions to the Pawleys Island Chapel in his memory.
