Obituary of Betty Brogdon

Elizabeth DuBose Brogdon, widow of Frederick Earle Brogdon, died Monday, August 11, 2025, at National Healthcare Center.
Born October 15, 1924, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Edward Ervin DuBose and Isabel Grier DuBose.
Mrs. Brogdon was a graduate of Edmunds High School and Winthrop College. She taught in the Sumter City Schools. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church where she taught the Westminster Children’s and Shorter Catechisms for over 70 years. She also served as Church Historian and in many capacities in the work of Presbyterian Women. She was a recipient of the Presbyterian Women’s Life Membership award. She was a member of the Colonial Dames, The Daughters of the American Revolution, The Sumter Art Association, The Book Club and a Sustainer in the Junior Welfare League, receiving the Spirit of the League award.
She is survived by a son, Dr. Frederick Earle Brogdon, Jr. (Laura); a daughter-in-law, Vivian Atkinson Brogdon Williams (Scott); four grandchildren, Margarete Brogdon Hill (Cooper), Rev. Frederick Earle Brogdon, III, Katherine Stewart Brogdon and Edward DuBose Brogdon, Jr.; two great-grandsons, William Cooper Hill, Jr. and Brogdon Caldwell Hill.
She was preceded in death by her son, Edward DuBose Brogdon.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:30 A.M. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Stewart Rawson officiating.
Burial will be in the Hebron Presbyterian Church Cemetery at 10:00 A.M. Thursday prior to the service.
The family will receive friends following the services in the Church Fellowship Hall and other times at the home, 17 Folsom Street.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 9 W. Calhoun Street, Sumter, SC 29150.
