Obituary of Michael Edward Moore
Please share a memory of Michael to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Michael Edward “Mike” Moore, 73, husband of Cathy Bell Moore, died Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at Prisma Health Richland Hospital in Columbia, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Sumter, he was the son of the late Rev. Thomas E. Moore, Jr. and Evelyn Rahn Moore.
Mike was a member of Sumter Baptist Temple and in his later years, was best known for “Mike in the Morning,” a mainstay on local Southern Gospel radio station WSSC 1340 AM/92.7 FM. His voice was his ministry through Sumter Baptist Temple for almost two decades. His sign-off song at the end of every show was "Just One More Soul," praying that one more soul might be saved.
He retired as a proud, hard-working fourth-generation entrepreneur of several area businesses, including Tip Top Radio & TV Shop, Moore TV Service, Moore Video Center, Affordable Racing Collectibles, Moore Enterprises, Moore & Moore ...gifts galore!, Moore Laundry Systems, and also partnered with his son, Christopher, on photographing events and weddings with his business, Palmetto Photography.
Survivors include his loving, dedicated and nagging wife of 54 years, Cathy Bell Moore.
He was “Daddy” to Jeana, Chris (Kyndal) and Elizabeth. He was “Papa” to Austin, Hunter, Kaytlin "Kaydee" (Jaylen), Caleb, Chandler, Rahn, Tony, Meadow Grace, Braelyn and Maxx. “Papa Mike” to Carter, Sawyer, and Hudson. Brother to Rick (Elaine), Terry, Theresa (Jeff), Jimmy and Floyd. Uncle Mike to numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his niece, Jennifer Vereen; sisters-in-law, Denise Boyd and Phyllis Bell; brother-in-law, Rick Bell, mother-in-love Reba Bell; a son-in-law, Wade Wallace Brock and fur baby Hank E Moore.
The family would like to thank the wonderful and compassionate caregivers who crossed their path at Prisma Health and Sharing Hope SC.
The family will receive friends from 3 P.M. to 4 P.M. Sunday, September 28, 2025, at Bethel Baptist Church prior to the service and at other times at 550 Pringle Drive.
A homegoing celebration will be held at 4 P.M. Sunday, at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Chris M. Moore, Rev. Eddie Richardson, Rev. Mike Westmoreland, and Rev. Steve Miller officiating.
Burial will be held at Sumter Cemetery, followed by a time of fellowship and music in the Family Life Center of Bethel Baptist Church.
