Obituary of William Benjamin Abbott, Jr.

William Benjamin Abbott Jr., 87, husband of Aileen Teucher Abbott, died Friday October 17, 2025, at his home in Sumter. Born in Anderson, SC. He was a son of the late William Benjamin Abbott Sr., and Roberta Plowden Abbott. Mr. Abbott was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran; served in the Corps of Engineers in the U.S. Army and Shaw AFB. He was a retired civil engineer with Plowden Construction Co. where he served as vice president for many years. Surviving are his wife; one daughter Susan Abbott Butler (Ken Mazankowski); one son Dr. William Benjamin Abbott III (Kelly Clay); one step daughter Robin Hunt Schmidt (Nicholas); one step son Neil Anthony Hunt; one sister Mary Abbott Staggs (Chuck); three brothers, Robert Plowden (Frankie), Dr. John Julian (Anne) and Arthur McFaddin Abbott (Susan); three grandchildren; Collin Butler, Dr. Nicholas Schmidt (Bethanie), Jennnifer Ann Ballard (Jared); and four great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Stewart Rawson officiating.
