Obituary of Sandra Brown Carter

Sandra Brown Carter, 89, widow of Ernest Cleo Carter, Jr., died Monday, October 20, 2025, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital. Born in Marion County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Ernest Clifton Brown and Ora Mae Lane Brown. Mrs. Carter was a member of Grace Baptist Church where she was a member of the Faith Sunday School class. Most of all, Mrs. Carter was a devoted and loving mother, and her children were the love, joy and pride of her life. She was a vivacious book reader and a jigsaw puzzle enthusiast. She was an avid bridge player. She loved cooking and baking and obtained her private pilot’s license in December of 1976. Surviving are two sons, Ernest Cleo “Pat” Carter III of Sumter and Christopher Duane Carter of Summerville, SC; a grandson, Christopher Ryan Carter of Surfside Beach, SC; a daughter-in-law, Graziella “Leslie” Bruner of Sumter; siblings, Joyce B. Edenfield of Sumter, Linda B. Gulledge (Jimmy) of Simpsonville, SC, Ernest C. Brown, Jr. (Linda) of Waynesville, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Jay Clifton Carter. The family will receive friends from 1 P.M. to 2 P.M. Monday, October 27, 2025, at Grace Baptist Church. Funeral Services will be held at 2 P.M. Monday at Grace Baptist Church with Dr. Steve Williams officiating. Burial will be in the Sumter Cemetery.
