Obituary of George Franklin Lyons

George Franklin “Frank” Lyons, 80, of Sumter, SC, passed away peacefully in the comfort his home on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.

He was born September 3, 1945 in Pinewood, SC.Known for his love of hard work, Frank was an expert electrician andretired from International Paper Mill. He was a skilled mechanic whoenjoyed working on cars, building and fixing things in his workshop, tending his yard, and planting a garden of produce that he always shared with others. He was an avid fisherman who loved the outdoors, especially being on the lake in his boat.

Frank is survived by his wife of 57 years, Linda Welsh Lyons, his daughter, Christy Burgess (Brad) of Hartsville, his son, Brent Lyons (Ashley) of Sumter, and his much loved grandchildren, Brianna, Brooke, and Brian Austin Lyons, and Jacob Burgess, all of whom he was exceedingly proud.


Additionally he is survived by his siblings, Johnny Lyons (Joan), Bill Lyons (Brenda), Shirley Turner (Charles), Betty Floyd (Edward), Sandra Neil, and Debbie Baldwin (Mike), a sister-in-law, Mary Welsh, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas E. and Elizabeth W. Lyons, his siblings, Myrtle Lyons, Thomas R. Lyons, Grace Weatherford, and Paul Lyons, and a brother-in-law, Ronald Welsh.


A memorial service will be held at Southside Baptist Church, 1116 Manning Rd, Sumter, SC on Saturday, November 1 at 12:30pm with
Reverend Jimmy Holley officiating.

Visitation will be in the church sanctuary prior to the service from 11:00am to 12:30pm.

A private burial for immediate family will follow at a later time.

The family extends their gratitude to the staff of Amedisys Hospice, especially nurses Barbie, Lynda, Alishia, Anne, Bridget, and Karen, for
their kind and compassionate care.
