Obituary of Joseph Thomas Witherspoon

Joseph Thomas “Tom” Witherspoon, 92, widower of Elizabeth Witherspoon to whom he was married 48 years, died Sunday, November 2, 2025, at Edgewood Nursing Home in Farmington, Maine.

Born in Mayesville, SC, September 12, 1933, he was a son of the late Joseph Theodore Witherspoon and Thelma Thomas Witherspoon.

Mr. Witherspoon was a U. S. Army veteran and served as a military policeman.  He was a farmer his entire life, enjoyed gardening, fishing, old cars and spending time later in life with his close friend, Mary Herriot.

Surviving is his grandson, Robert Blake; three great-grandchildren, Reegan Elizabeth Blake, Gemma Mae Blake, Buea Joseph Blake and his sister, Martha Caroline Burke.

In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a son, Joseph Witherspoon, III, a brother, James McBride Witherspoon; two sisters, Elizabeth Ann Touchberry and Mary Alice Speed.

Memorial Services will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday, November 29, 2025, in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home.
