Obituary of Dorothy Mixon

Dorothy Christine Hyatt Mixon, 80, widow of Hazel Mixon, died Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at Springdale Nursing Facility in Camden.

Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Warner Hyatt and Pauline Nunnery Hyatt. 

Mrs. Mixon was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and a retired day care teacher.

Surviving is a daughter, Julie Ann Maddox (Tim); four grandchildren, Lauren Tidwell (Jonathan), Slade Mixon, Emily Harris and Brianna Harris; five great-grandchildren; an expected great-great-grandchild; a god-son, Derek Dobyns; and a sister-in-law, Mary Hyatt; several nieces and nephews; four great-nieces and one great-nephew. 

She was preceded in death by a brother, Laverne Hyatt. 

Graveside services will be held at 12 Noon Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. Tuesday, at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home.
