Obituary of Jennie Linn McLaurin Duffie

Please share a memory of Jennie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Jennie Linn McLaurin Duffie, beloved wife of retired Brigadier General John B. Duffie for more than 65 years, died on December 13, 2025.

Born August 2, 1941, in Sumter, she was the daughter of Hugh M. McLaurin, Jr. and Louise Nettles McLaurin.

Mrs. Duffie was a graduate of Sumter High School, where she served as senior class secretary and organized class reunions for many years. She attended Limestone College. She was a sustaining member and former secretary of the Sumter Junior Welfare League. In recognition of her service to the Field Artillery, she received the Molly Pitcher Award. She also served Secretary of the Sumter Board of Realtors during her tenure as a real estate agent.

A devoted member of First Presbyterian Church, Mrs. Duffie was active in several adult Sunday School classes and served as a Sunday School and Bible School teacher for children. She was also active in the circles of Presbyterian Women, serving as a secretary and receiving an Honorary Life Membership.

Wedgefield Presbyterian Church was especially dear to her heart. When her children were young, she ensured they participated fully in church activities. Later, she returned as an active member, where she and her husband served as Communion Preparers. Their children honored them with the gift of a Communion pottery service to the church.

Survivors include her husband, John B. Duffie; two daughters, Louise Duffie Glover (Ron) and Linn Duffie Richardson; one son, John B. Duffie III (Kelly); four grandchildren, Will Richardson (Rebekah), Jennie Linn Richardson, John Blake Duffie (Zoe), and Taylor Duffie; one great-grandchild, William Shepherd Richardson; and numerous loving cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is also survived by devoted caregivers, Mrs. Willie Mae Cokley and Mrs. Nicey Bossard.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Christian J. Glover, and a son-in-law, Bill Richardson.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 18, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. Stewart Rawson and the Rev. Dr. Ron Glover officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. in McLeod Fellowship Hall.
