Obituary of Ruby Lulene Paul

Ruby Lulene Brazell Paul, 83, of Sumter, SC. Wife of Mack James Paul, Sr., passed away on December 14, 2025. Born in Camden, SC, she was the daughter of the late Rivers Clater Brazell and the late Myrtle Lee Anderson Brazell Baker.

 

Ruby was born in Camden, SC and became a professional seamstress at a very young age. When she moved to Sumter, SC she worked at Modeling Die where she met and later married her husband Mack James Paul, Sr.

 

Ruby was a devoted wife and loving mother. She helped her husband with the farming and trucking business for many years. She worked at the Sumter Poultry Hatchery and the Charm House Fabrics of Sumter.

 

Ruby was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and loved her church family. She taught Sunday School and was an inspiration to many and she loved to encourage others, especially her children.


Ruby attended Sumter Area Technical College and became a CNA. She later attended the USC cake decorating program. Ruby used her CNA to care for others in their home and was a true inspiration to many people. She often sacrificed her own needs in dedication, and support for others throughout her entire life.

 

Ruby enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved to travel and explore new places and was an avid reader and crossword puzzle solver. She loved crafts and large family gatherings where she enjoyed preparing many meals. She especially loved hosting showers and weddings.

 

Ruby is survived by her husband Mack James Paul, Sr. of Sumter and her children, Melissa Paul Chandler (Jack) of Edgefield, Mack James Paul, Jr. of Sumter, Kevin Paul, Sr., (Tina) of Sumter, Minnie Sue Paul Ardis (Ashley) of Sumter; her grandchildren, Kevin Paul, II of Tennessee, Kayla Jones (Adrian) of Columbia; and her great grandchildren, Emma Leviti and Ophelia Jones. A sister Fay Spradley Ellis of Lugoff; a half-brother Larry Baker (Deborah) of Sumter, and half-sisters, Linda Huggins and Lula Varner of Sumter.

 

Ruby is preceded in death by her grandson, Jack Chandler, III, and Robert Ardis, III; her sister, Betty Parker, brother, Laverene Brazell, and half-sister Joyce Ivey.

 

She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

 

Graveside Services will be held at 2 PM Wednesday in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Chris Moore officiating.
