Obituary of Mary Frances Hunter

Mary Frances Hunter, 94, widow of Charles F. Hunter, died in Sumter, SC on May 23, 2026.

Born in Grenada, MS on May 9, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Jesse James Nail and Onie Costello.

Mrs. Hunter was a member of First Baptist Church. She worked over 25 years at the Belk in Sumter. She had a great love of dogs and flowers.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two sisters Dorothy Able, Shirley Gilder; her brother Sonny Nail, and her first son James Henry Carpenter.

She is survived by her sons Charles Jeffrey Hunter, Tim Hunter; three grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and her sister Willy Paul Duboise.

The family will receive friends from 10 A.M. to 12 P.M. on Tuesday at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and Crematory, 221 Broad Street, Sumter. 

Funeral Services will be held at the Chapel of Elmore Hill McCreight at 12 P.M. on Tuesday with a graveside to follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
