Obituary of William Wayne Mathis

William Wayne Mathis, 73, beloved husband of 53 years to Debbie Sellers Mathis, died Monday, June 22, 2026, at his home.  

Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Lonnie Mathis and Connie Skinner Mathis.

He was a retired contractor, a man of God that loved his family and was an avid fisherman.

Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Shelly M. Stokes (Will), Niki Lewis (Chris), Jennifer M. Guerra (Norman); one son Jason Wayne Mathis (Megan); a sister Ellen Campbell; six grandchildren, Dennis Ray Grooms, Nikolas Grooms, Caroline Jefferson (Jay), Emma Kay Mathis, Reese Ann Mathis, Anderson Stokes; his beloved dogs Mary Kate and Cole.

He was preceded in death by a brother Lonnie Thomas Mathis Jr.

The family will receive friends from 1 PM – 3 PM Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home.
