Obituary of Clayton Wayne Collins

Senior Chief Electrician’s Mate, U.S. N., Clayton Wayne Collins, 81, husband of Wanda “Mickey” Murphy Collins, died Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at Lake Marion Nursing Facility.  

 

Born in Horry County, he was a son of the late James W. Collins and Corrine Margaret Graham Collins.

 

Mr. Collins was twice married, first to the late Velma Mixon Collins and then to Wanda “Mickey” Murphy Collins. 

 

Mr. Collins was a member of Eastside Baptist Church.  He was a retired U. S. Navy veteran of Korea and Vietnam.  While in Korea he fought at Formosa and during Vietnam he fought in the Bay of Pigs battle.  He later retired from Holiday Inn (Fowler Hospitality).

 

Surviving are his wife of Sumter; two sons, Jeffery Wayne Collins (Janice) of Ridgeland SC, James David Collins (Celeste) of Atlanta, GA; two daughters, Lisa Mechelle Blackwelder (Ralph) of Young Harris, GA and Cynthia Lynne Cawthon of Atlanta, GA;

Six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Friday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with Chaplin Bryan Hatfield officiating.

 

Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors.

 

Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Manchester Trail Riders.

 

The family will receive friends from 1-2 P.M. Friday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home, 2130 Lefty Lane.
