Obituary of Allene Griffin Ross

Allene Griffin Ross, 90, widow of George W. Ross, died Monday, July 16, 2018. at Palmetto Health Tuomey.

 

She was a daughter of the late Ernest Collin Griffin, Sr. and the late Martha McLeod Griffin. 

 

She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Sumter.  She was an employee of Becton-Dickinson for a number of years; but her primary and most important role in life was that of a very loving and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cared deeply for all her family members.

 

She was especially known for keeping abreast of those who were ill through phone calls and visits to help in any way that she could.  A caregiver all her life, she will be sorely missed by all those whose lives she touched, including her beloved feline family, Agnes and Isabel. 

 

Surviving are her daughter, Linda R. Myers and husband J.T. of Sumter; a grandson, James E. Mathis, Jr. and wife Wendy of AL; great-granddaughter, Cassia Mathis of AL; great-granddaughter, Callie Mathis Matthews and husband Jon of San Diego, CA; great-grandson, Sean Mathis of AL; three step-granddaughters, Malia, Dawn and Jenny of the Washington, DC area and many nieces and nephews. 

 

Mrs. Ross was predeceased by all her brothers, Ernest C. Griffin, Jr., James R. Griffin, Sr., Leslie W. Griffin, Sr., Herbert Griffin and John H. Griffin; her sister, Louise Turner; and a great-grandson, James Austin Mathis.

 

The family would like to thank Sylvia Davis and Crystal Friel for their loving companionship.

 

Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Saturday at the First Church of the Nazarene, 3700 Patriot Parkway, Sumter, with the Rev. Gregory Pressley officiating.

 

Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends and relatives at 2 P.M. Saturday preceding the service at the church and other times at the Ross home at 1307 Muller Drive.
