Carol Susan Paul Boyd, 80, wife of Lt Col (Ret) Sterling Walter Boyd, passed away Sunday, October 1, 2023 at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital. Born in Wichita, KS, she was the oldest daughter of the late Gerald Paul and Leita Paul of Augusta, KS. Carol was an avid gardener and was a past President of the Sumter Master Gardeners, the Poinsett Garden Club, and the Herb Society. As the wife of an Air Force officer, she traveled extensively, living in Italy, Germany and Saudi Arabia. Her most memorable travel experience was a month long safari to Africa visiting South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and Zambia. She and her husband often revisited Europe and made two fascinating trips, spending a month in both China and Russia. Carol was also an accomplished equestrian, skier, SCUBA diver and off shore sailor. She also loved to fish and was at home on the lakes and rivers of her beloved South Carolina. She often commented that her life was blessed with one adventure after another, shared with her husband of 56 years. Here greatest loves were her husband, son and her home. Carol lived a full and exciting life. Surviving are her husband and a son, Sterling Foxx Boyd of Sumter; a niece, Amy Shanahan and a sister, Joi Cox.of Knoxville. Tennessee. In lieu of flowers please consider donating generously to the Sumter SPCA in memory of her love for animals. Memorial Services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at Alice Drive Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Clay Smith officiating. The family will receive friends after the ceremony.
