Obituary of Charles Arthur "Yaya" Segars, Sr.

Charles Arthur “Yaya” Segars, 87, widower of Addie Louise Wise Segars, died Sunday, November 19, 2023, at Covenant Place of Sumter. Born December 23, 1935, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Ray Virgene Segars and Louise Snow Segars. Mr. Segars was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Boyle Bible Class. He was a 1958 graduate of Clemson University where he was an athletic trainer and cheerleader. He was a retired farmer and U. S. Navy veteran. Surviving are one daughter, Sarah Segars Barnes (Jack) of Sumter; four sons, Charles Arthur Segars, Jr. (Barbara) of Sumter, William Camp Segars (Karen) of Hartsville, George Wise Segars (Darlene) of Sumter and Burrell “Billy” Raymie Segars (Nicolle) of Sumter; fifteen grandchildren, Jack Barnes Jr. (Sally), Charlie Barnes (Sydne), James Barnes (Holly), Anna Louise Segars, Charles Segars III, William Segars, Hunter Segars (Anna), Maggie Segars, Liza Segars, Wise Segars, McClain Segars, Carlisle Segars, Jane Elizabeth Goodson (Dr. Jay Goodson), Raymie Segars, Andrew Segars; and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Ray Segars, Jr. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. Joseph James officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall. A Private Burial will be in the Sumter Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as Pallbearers.
