Sallie Singleton Ortmann, 35, died Monday, December 25, 2023 at Prisma Tuomey Health. Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of Joseph C. "Jody" Ortmann and Olivia Jackson "Libby" Ortmann. Sallie grew up in the First Presbyterian Church in Sumter and attended Mount Horeb Methodist Church in Lexington. She was a graduate of Sumter High School in 2006. She continued her education at the University of South Carolina where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority, and later served as a collegiate advisor. After graduating, Sallie began teaching high school anatomy and physiology at Lexington High School. Her tireless efforts to instill a love for learning in her students never went unnoticed. Sallie's impact extended far beyond the academic realm. Her commitment to nurturing not only the intellect, but also the character of her students was evident in the lasting relationships she built. Students often described her as “exuberant”, “compassionate”, and “inspiring”. Beyond the walls of the school, Sallie was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary Palmetto Girls State program. She committed many summers to “PGS” and loved mentoring the future leaders of South Carolina. Other than educator, Sallie’s favorite title was “Aunt Sassy” to her nephews, cousins, and anyone that was fortunate to be loved by her. Surviving are her parents of Sumter, two sisters, Anna Ortmann Stuart (Cory) and Catherine Ortmann Hart (James) and two nephews, McFaddin and David Stuart, all of Columbia. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at Christ Community Church with Rev. Mark Yoder and Dr. Clay Smith officiating.
