Travis Lee Barger, 55, loving husband of Jennifer L. Wheat Barger, died peacefully in his sleep on Friday, January 20, 2017. Born in Topeka, Kansas, he was a son of the late Donald Eugene Barger and Betty Ann Haggard Barger. Mr. Barger attended Alice Drive Baptist Church. He earned his bachelors and masters degrees in education at the University of South Carolina. He was a retired meteorologist from the U. S. Air Force and was paired with the 82nd Special Forces Army Group out of Ft. Bragg, NC. He was also a Mason and a member of the VFW. Mr. Barger was a sixth grade science teacher at Hillcrest Middle School, was the head football coach and was also a former basketball coach. He was also known as “Shakes” of the Warrior Brotherhood Motorcycle Club. Surviving are his wife of Dalzell; one son, Joel Barger (Adela); one daughter, Sarah Barger; five brothers, Mike (Marlene), David (Lanie), Dale (Vanna), Bob (Cindy) and Roger; one step-son, Adam Patrick Raynard (Danielle); five grandchildren, Gabriel, Anthony, Diego, Allison and Ari. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Friday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with military honors. There will be a procession leaving Hillcrest Middle School at 1 P.M. Saturday going to the funeral home.
