Obituary of John William Johnson

John William “Johnny” Johnson, 96, widower of Dorothy Ferrigan Johnson, died Monday, March 5, 2018.

 

Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Perry Johnson and Frances Arabella Strickland Johnson.

 

Mr. Johnson was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church.  He was a 1939 graduate of Edmunds High School and an Army-Air Corps World War II veteran.  He was the retired owner and manager of Frank’s Truck Stop. 

 

He was a life member of several organizations including Claremont Masonic Lodge #64, the Omar Shrine Temple in Charleston, SC, Court #113 of the Royal Order of Jesters, the Sumter Shrine Club,  American Legion Post 15, the VFW, the DAV and General P.G.T. Beauregard Chapter #1458 Sons of the Confederate Veterans. 

 

Surviving are one son, Frank W. Johnson and wife Sally of Clemmons, NC; two grandchildren, Mark W. Johnson and Lauren Johnson Cottick; two great-grandchildren, Hannah Cottick and Trevor Cottick; a sister, Lorinne DeLorme of Sumter and several nieces and nephews. 

 

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Perra Comings and Merldean Harrelson.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Friday at Aldersgate United Methodist Church with Rev. David Day officiating.                                                

           

Graveside services at Evergreen will be private. 

 

Pallbearers will be Sam Anderson, Merritt Clement, Bob DeLorme, Mark Johnson, Jimmy Mixon, Alan Prescott, Julian Seale and Sammy Way.

 

Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Wesley Fellowship Sunday School Class.

 

The family will receive friends from 4 P.M. to 6 P.M. Thursday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home.
