Obituary of Mac Ridgeway

Homer McLaurin “Mac” Ridgeway, 64, died Sunday, July 15, 2018, at his home.

 

Born in Sumter, he was a son of Mary Elizabeth Bryant Ridgeway and the late William Reuben Ridgeway.

 

Mr. Ridgeway was a member of Eastside Baptist Church.  Mac has been a quadriplegic since 1978 after a football injury and has been an inspiration to his family and to all who knew him. 

 

Surviving are his mother of Sumter; a brother, Ray Ridgeway of Sumter; a sister, Jane Ferguson (George) of Sumter; a special niece, Mandy Wilson (Bruce) of VA; two special nephews, Bryan Ridgeway (Emily) and Chase Ferguson (Ashley) all of Sumter; two special great-nieces, Kaylee Wilson and Ella Ridgeway; a special great-nephew, Will Wilson.  In addition to his mother being his primary caregiver, the family would like to thank his special caregiver of 26 years, Gaile Andrews. 

 

Funeral Services will be held at 2 P.M. Thursday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with Rev. James Baker and Rev. George Smith officiating.

 

Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

 

Pallbearers will be Kenny Mixon, Jay Hodge, Kenny Bryant, Roy Bryant, Steve Ridgeway and Erik Ridgeway.

 

Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. E. MacDonald DuBose and cousins.  

 

The family will receive friends from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. Wednesday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home, 3050 Highway 15 South.
