Obituary of James Samuel Shirah, Sr.
James Samuel Shirah, Sr., 90, widower of Peggy Jean Graham Shirah, died, Sunday, May 12, 2019, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital.
Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late James Christopher Shirah and Dorothy Lucille Ardis Shirah.
Mr. Shirah was of the Baptist faith. He was a retired U. S. Air Force Technical Sergeant with 24 years of service. He was an avid coon hunter, boxer and boxing manager. He loved to travel and enjoyed bluegrass music. He was a loving father and grandfather.
Surviving are four sons, Sam Shirah (Carol), Chris Shirah (Wanda), Frank Shirah, Ryan Shirah (Stacy) two daughters, Patricia Shirah Reber (Bill) and Carol Shirah Richburg all of Sumter; two brothers, Thomas Shirah of Summerville and Heyward Shirer of VA; a sister, Virginia McDearis of Sumter; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Wednesday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home.
Burial will be in the Pinewood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. Tuesday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home.
