Charles Gable Holland, 78, died Wednesday, October 14, 2020, at Prisma Health Richland Hospital in Columbia, SC. Born in Sumter, March 15, 1942, he was a son of the late Ralph T. and Lottie G. Holland. Mr. Holland was a lifelong resident of Sumter and was a member of The Church of the Holy Comforter and was also involved with the community theater. He worked part time as a computer programmer for several local businesses. Very mechanically inclined, he enjoyed flying small engine aircraft, and was an avid sailor and boater. He built his own 22’ wooden sailboat, “The Victorie” and often sailed on Lake Marion. He attended Central Institute for the Deaf in St. Louis, MO, Edmunds High School in Sumter, SC and graduated from Camden Military Academy in 1963. He then attended Montreat College in Black Mountain, NC and graduated at Elon College, Burlington, NC in 1968. Surviving are a sister-in-law, Ann C. Holland; elder niece, Michele Holland Kolakowski both of Boulder County, CO and younger niece, Kathryn M. Holland of Encinitas, CA. He was preceded in death by his elder brother, Ralph T. Holland, Jr. Private graveside services will be held in the Sumter Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to The Church of the Holy Comforter Anglican, 213 N.
