James Robert “Bob” Gibson, Sr., 91, husband of Suzanne Risher Gibson, died Friday, January 15, 2021 at his home.
Bob was married to the love of his life, Suzanne as they celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary on Christmas Day.
Born in McColl, S.C. he was a son of the late John Milby Gibson and Margaret Laulee King Gibson.
Bob was a proud U.S. Air Force veteran, a member of the Sumter Civic Chorale for 15 years and an active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church for over 50 years where he served as former a treasurer, head usher, a member of various committees, or wherever he was needed. At Aldersgate, he was known as “Sweet Ole Bob”. He was a retired manager of Winn Dixie in Hartsville, assistant manager from Coker’s of Sumter and retired from Crosswell Company. He was a Mason and an artist.
Bob never met a stranger. He was loved and admired by all who knew him. To have Bob in one’s life was a true blessing.
Surviving are his wife of Sumter, two daughters, Mary Lee Mossor (Tony) of Sumter and Suzanne Gibson Tweddle (Terry) of Kingstree; four grandchildren, Ashley Kate Mossor (fiancé Scott Cole), Kelley Jackson, Stacy Brunson (Daniel) and James Robert “Jimmy” Gibson, III; a loving daughter-in-law, Jaci Gibson; an adopted daughter, Maurine Toomie; special friends, Angel Hansen and Autumn Hansen.
He was preceded in death by a son, James Robert Gibson, Jr.
Graveside Services will be held at 2 P.M. Wednesday in the Sumter Cemetery with Rev. David Day and Rev. Larry Brown officiating.
