A memory: Horace taught me to ride a bicycle as a child, when my father Dave Ward happened to be deployed away from home that year with the Air Force. My uncle Horace was dear to me and such a wonderful brother to my mother, his sister Margie Curtis Ward. He was, of course, thoughtful to all of his sisters, family and extended family. He was a wealth of knowledge and knew so much about our family geneology. We called him when we had a question about that, and not only our family, he knew so many people in Sumter, and who was related to whom... he had a sharp mind until the end. Horace will be sorely missed and I loved him very much. I loved his wife, my Aunt Juanita. I love his dear friend Jule Land as a member of our family! I love his children Steve, Helen, Rick and Bobby and their beautiful children (his grandchildren) and their families. Horace leaves a rich Christain legacy indeed, and family and friends that will miss him. I was not ready to not be able to call him up as I often did, to ask him something. He was full of fun and had a sense of humor and edge, too. He was a servant leader as City Manager of Sumter. Horace, You made your mark in this world.
Thank you for being a friend. Rest in Peace. Love from your niece, Susan Ward.

Dear Curtis cousins, I was very sad to learn of Horace's death, but happy that he enjoyed such a long and productive life. He was a kind man and a true Christian, always helpful to our grandmother and loyal to our mother Eleanor as well as to his other two sisters. May he rest in peace. Love, Hoyt

Helen, Steve, Ricky, Bobby, and your entire family, what precious memories! Your Dad was a kind man, and your home was a fun place to be! I enjoyed growing up with all of you. God bless you during this time. How blessed we were to have had our fathers for so many years. Prayers for all of you.

I dated Horace for a Kappa Sigma Rush Party when I was a freshman at USC in 1947. I dared my parents to come to the door to meet him because I couldn't remember whether his name was Horace Curtis or Curtis Horace. He was a great person and I valuated his friendship during our college years. I was happy to read about his good life. My condolences to the family.
