About Us

Our company was founded in April 1980 by the late Otis J. Elmore Sr., the late Mitchell G. Hill and the late Ruth Weatherly. After many years’ experience in Funeral Service in the Sumter, Shaw and surrounding communities, the Elmore-Hill Funeral Home began serving families out of the newly renovated "Rowland Mansion" at 221 Broad Street. After a year in business a 300-seat capacity Chapel was added to further serve the needs of families.

Today, after 38 years and continued renovations and additions, the full service funeral home is a lovely landmark of Southern beauty.

In 1992, Robert S. (Bobby) McCreight became a partner with the firm, adding to the name, Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and in 1998 became President of the firm.

Following the death of Mitchell G. Hill in 2009, his son, William Cooper Hill, joined the firm as a partner and currently serves as Vice President.

Today, just as in 1980, the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and Crematory understands the importance of serving and pleasing families during their time of loss. As an independent, locally owned and operated funeral home, we are committed to providing the utmost, dignified and personal service. We are proven professionals upholding a solid reputation of loyalty, trust and commitment to the families we serve. We know and understand through years of dedicated service how to assist families in memorializing their loved ones. Whether a family chooses traditional burial, out of state transfer or various types of cremation services, we are capable of handling all details, large or small.

With a competent, fully qualified staff with many years of experience, our licensed Funeral Directors, Embalmers and Apprentices are able to assist families at any hour of the day or night.

We are proud that we are locally owned and operated and have no conglomerate connection. We are not affiliates with any other funeral firm in Sumter or the surrounding area. We are also proud of our efficient staff, all reared here in Sumter, most graduating from Sumter County schools and have spent a lifetime serving the needs of Sumter, Shaw and surrounding communities. We are friends in your time of need.
