My sincere condolences to the family of Mr. Charlie.
Will Harvin introduced me to him when I was 17 and starting to play more tennis than other sports- as Manning had no HS Tennis teams at that time. Mr Charlie and Mr Will won a great many doubles Championships all around SC.
Mr Charlie was quite the teacher and through his help, I somehow won the USC- Sumter Intermural Tennis Tournament my Freshman year.
He always had a smile and kind words for all players of all levels of play. You can play tennis most of your life and it is a great social game he would say.
He was mighty proud of all his kids, and and his students, I just heard about his death today.

Such a wonderful man. He was very patient trying to teach me to play tennis! Loved seeing him at the Y and at First Presbyterian too!!! He always asked about Wendy, our daughter, whom actually learned from him how to be a good tennis player!! We are keeping Marian and family in our thoughts and prayers.

I owe my inside out forehand to Coach Hodgin! So thankful for his wise words and encouragement every time I saw him at the tennis center.

Coach taught me to play tennis the summer I became a senior at Edmunds High School. He was working in a parks and recreation program in the little white building at the old airport for those of you who remember. While it was cool, he taught me tennis. When it got hot, we played ping pong inside. Made the tennis team my senior year. One of the most influential people in my life.

Charlie was one of the finest men I have ever known. Always smiling, always upbeat. I enjoyed all the decades we played tennis together and against each other. He will be sorely missed.
