Obituary of Dorothy Dorman Spencer

Dorothy “Dot” Dorman Spencer, 97, widow of Howard Evans Spencer, died Saturday, May 8, 2021 at her home. Born in Gaffney, SC, she was a daughter of the late Clingmon Dorman and Sadie Byers Dorman. Mrs. Spencer was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the Bethany Sunday School class, Circle #3, and she was a Sunday School teacher for the three-year old class for 23 years as well as a recipient of an Honorary Life Membership in Presbyterian Women. She was a graduate of Gaffney High School and Robinson’s Business College in Spartanburg, SC. She was retired from Sumter School District 17. Surviving are two sons, Dan Spencer (Lorette) of Sumter and Dyke Spencer (Rhonda) of Clemson; four grandchildren, Kevan Spencer (Jenna), Ryan Spencer, Hadley Spencer and Cameron Spencer (Hannah); four great-grandchildren, Tessa, Evan, Silas and Patrick Spencer. She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. Funeral Services will be held at 2 P.M. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Chuck Staggs and Susan Price officiating. All attendees are required to wear masks and practice social distancing For those unable to attend, services will be live streamed on the website, www.sumterfunerals.com The family will receive friends following the memorial service in the green space outside church and other times at 112 Thelma Street. Private family graveside services will be held at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery Memorials may be made to Presbyterian Women in care of First Presbyterian Church, 9 W.
