West Columbia, SC Mary Margaret Fair, 91, widow of Lt. Col Don F. Fair, died Friday, May 8, 2015 in Boca Raton, FL. Born in Okmulgee, OK, she was the daughter of the late Clarence W. Laub and Helen DeGraffe Laub. Mrs. Fair and her family came to Sumter in the mid 1960’s when Don was stationed at Shaw Air Force Base. They made their home in Sumter for more than 30 years. Mrs. Fair was a former member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church, was very active in the St. Anne’s Women’s Club and the Sumter Garden Club. She loved gardening and going to the SC Gamecock Football games with her family. After Don died, Mrs. Fair moved to Laurel Crest in West Columbia where she enjoyed Independent living and her view of the Saluda River. She kept binoculars close by to view the wild life, especially the eagle she came to call her own, as well as all the other River activity. She wintered in Boca Raton and delighted in the cultural activities and wildlife of South Florida. Mrs. Fair was a member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation (CPN), of Shawnee, OK and was extremely proud of her Native American Heritage. She was quite a lady, well loved and will be sorely missed. Surviving are her children Michael L. Fair (Martene) of Sierpe, Costa Rica and Fairfield, PA; Barbara Fair Little (John) of Boca Raton, FL, Beverly Fair Coker (Joseph/Beau) of Alpharetta, GA, Gina Fair White (Jim) of Irmo, SC, and Charlotte Fair Baker (Doug) of Lexington, SC; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Don in 1997. Memorial Mass will be held at St Peters Catholic Church, Columbia, at 2PM, Tuesday, May 12. Funeral Mass will be held at St Anne’s Catholic Church, Sumter, SC, Thursday, 10AM with burial following at St. Lawrence Cemetery Pallbearers are: Phillip (Jody) Strange, Donald (Adam) Baker, Donald Huggins, Kurt Welday, Will Epps, Nathan Worthan. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home, Sumter, SC.
