Becky and family…my thoughts and prayers are with you as you grieve Tiny’s death. My husband “Mex” Michael Mechsner has another dear friend in heaven to fly with. He always considered Tiny an outstanding officer, pilot and loyal friend. After Shaw, Tiny and Mike lost touch until Mike was at MPC in the mid-eighties. Mike was able to help his friend then out of a dangerous situation and was so glad he could.
Having just walked the same path that you are now, my heart goes out to you and your family.
I remember Tiny from Shaw and all the times Mike would talk about him. May he RIP and may your grief be softened with the memories and love that you shared. May God give you strength and comfort. My deepest sympathy is sent to each of you.

I am sad to hear of Tiny Owens passing.
I remember Tiny as one of the finest officers and friend to those of us in maintenance at Shaw. I got to know Tiny as a Flight Chief in the 16th AMU. While we were TDY at England AFB LA. Tiny suggested we go to a restaurant that had Alligator appetizers, he enjoyed it, we looked at it a little differently. We decided that we would pick the restaurant from then on.
I realized that Tiny had a very good sense of humor and he handled our decision well. It was an Honor to serve with him and to know him.

I was saddened to learn of Joe's passing. Joe and I attended high school together, we played football and baseball together. Joe was a true college baseball success story. In 1966 Gene Shell (the new baseball coach) and Joe Owens (the ace of our pitching staff) saved baseball at the University of Tulsa. During that record breaking season I caught every game Joe pitched, and it seemed like Joe pitched every other game. Joe was a true workhorse. Joe was my friend, fraternity brother, and teammate. Athletically Joe was a late bloomer, college not high school. Joe could punt or throw a football over fifty yards. He truly dominated the pitching mound when he pitched in college. Joe set many school baseball records at the University of Tulsa. Both Joe and I served our country as Air Force officers during the Viet Nam war. Joe chose to make the Air Force his life career and he served with honor. He will be missed.
Bill Chapman, University of Tulsa Class of 1966, Tulsa Central High School Class of 1962.

Tiny was so full of life and such a fun guy to be around - I can't believe he's gone. I'm want him to write "Just kidding, Old Indian Trick"...
I noted on Facebook that Tiny was the source of at least 10% of all my Recce stories. He made everyone around him smile.
I'll miss you Tiny...

Becky,
Billie and I are deeply saddened to hear that Tiny has passed. Although we missed you when we visited Tiny a couple of years ago, I am glad I had a chance to see him even though he was struggling even then. I have many memories of me and Tiny plying the skies of Germany and Sumter in the mighty double ugly - he was a top notch pilot. I also recall an incident in the mid eighties where Tiny was in his car behind another car at a stop sign on Ft. Stewart ( I think I have the location right...) and the guy in the car shot his wife right in front of Tiny. Tiny then chased the killer around the base until the guy turned around and shot Tiny in the arm. I think Tiny finally chased him right into the Base police facility if memory serves me. That incident showed me what I already knew, that Tiny was a guy who wouldn't walk away from danger when the cause was right.
Tiny is now with our God, who I'm certain has made a special place for him. Please accept our condolences to you and the family and may Tiny rest in peace.

Tiny, from our days at Zweibrucken to the good times we had at the Sumter aerodrome it has been a privilege to share your friendship. You fought the good fight and now you can Rest In Peace. Your booming voice is silent but you memory loud. Farewell my friend.

Sorry to hear about "Tiny". My wife and I have many good memories of Tiny and his favorite trick of making you look at something on your torso and then saying "gotcha". Bob "Slowboat" & Barb Lucas

Becky and family,
Cheryl and I are very saddened to read about Tiny's passing. Ya'll were amongst the first people we met in Germany in 1980 and will always remember that apartment we stayed in. Hans and Irma were always remembering you all as well. I last visited with Tiny at Pappy's in Arizona many years ago and he hadn't changed a bit.
I pray for peace and good memories knowing that he will be waiting for us in the next life.

Tiny, I was so sorry to hear that you had gone on to rendezvous with Pappy, Sly Pig, the Bear, and so many of your old friends, but they will be glad to see you! I told The Father to get ready for some "old Indian tricks" and maybe Coach Owens' Alabama Spread! Save room at the Happy Hour bar for us, old friend, as you'll have more old buddies joining you soon enough! Rest in Peace. Mugs
