Looking back over the years and miles, I remember Stephanie as a curly haired, lanky and lean beautiful little girl who always danced around wanting to be a ballerina. She was lively and vibrant and loved her sisters. So full of life. Little did we know how she would affect so many lives in her short time here on earth. The service today was a celebration of a life well-lived, a testimony of a person who practiced the Golden Rule - to love one-another, as God commands, and an inspiration for all to learn from her example. Thank you for live-streaming the service. We will always remember Stephanie as a sister in Christ who never stopped loving others.

It has truly been an honor to call you my friend. My life is better for knowing you. Such a kind, loving soul. A beautiful woman inside and out. You're strength, determination, and sheer will to keep pushing forward has been so inspirational and amazing to see. Thank you, Steph...for everything. I love ya darlin'.

I was classmates with Stephanie at Manchester and then again at Lakewood. We were in orchestra and many other classes together. The most overwhelming quality of hers that really made her unique was her general sense of encouragement to everyone around her. She made everyone feel welcome, and yet was also someone you didn't want to disappoint. She didn't guilt you into anything, but you just respected her so much that you wanted to be a better person yourself. We've only kept in contact through social media the past decade, but reading through our messages, she would send me random memories from time to time. None of them were of any significant importance, but I valued those memories too and hadn't forgotten them either, and it means so much knowing she remembered and valued them too. In high school we almost signed up for a talent show to sing "Chances Are" from the Hope Floats soundtrack as a duet. We would sing it in class waiting for the bell to ring, and it's exactly the kind of random memory that you keep from high school 20 years later. It meant nothing to anyone except us, but it meant a lot to me. And I suspect that her life was full of personal connections like this with so many people. I'm sure that all of her friends, students, colleagues, etc., from all the many stages of her life have personal fond memories of their time with Stephanie. She lived in the moment and was the best of us. I am grateful that she organized our 10 year high school reunion, and I worry we'll never have another without Stephanie to pull everyone back together.
The last memory I want to share is that a few years ago she contacted me when her son was diagnosed with Marfan Syndrome. In 1996 I had a little cousin with a severe case of Marfan Syndrome who passed away at 4 years old. I don't remember talking about it much with anyone and surely didn't want to, but naturally Stephanie must have eased me into talking about it with her. When she found out about her son's diagnosis, she immediately remembered learning about Marfan from me 20+ years ago. She had questions and I offered words of encouragement, but more than anything I just want to use this story to illustrate what an incredible listener and friend she was. My heart was broken in 1996 and therefore it broke Stephanie's heart too. She lived with you in your pain and stayed there with you until you recovered, and then she carried that burden and memory in her heart & mind too. She had such a gift for empathy. What an absolutely fantastic person and friend. I will try to honor her by enjoying all the small moments in life in the present while trying to make as many lasting memories as I can. Thank you Stephanie.

I met Stephanie when she was a student at Lakewood. It was my first teaching position after graduating college. I first met her as a member of the Drama Club that I was advising. I decided that The Crucible was a good play for us to try to produce. We rented out the Opera House and had a one night performance. She played Rebecca Nurse, the sweetest and most innocent character in the play. Such a fitting role for her as that is who she was. Later, I coached soccer and Stephanie was one of our key players and eventually became team captain. She was someone the other girls looked up to and respected. We kept in contact through Facebook and eventually she came to work with me at Sumter High. I looked forward to this so that I could get to know her as a colleague instead of as a former student. Sadly, covid and her cancer prevented us from having much time to share together. I pray for her family and especially for her children.

Stephanie was one of my closest friends in 6th and 7th grade. There was a group of girls that we would have monthly sleepovers with, and I remember all the long nights of laughing, movie watching, and talking about boys. We reconnected several years ago and enjoyed a week together exploring Boston. Our hike around Walden Pond and picnic lunch is a memory I'll always enjoy. I wish we had been able to make that trip to the UK we were planning last year.
Stephanie was a remarkable woman and true friend no matter the time or distance. I admire her strength and the joy she found in life. She will be truly missed but lovingly remembered.

Stephanie was one of the first kids I met when I started going to Manchester in 4th grade. I was extremely shy back then and having even one person to talk to was a huge deal. We were friends at Lakewood and I introduced her to her high school sweetheart. Later, I learned my husband rode the school bus with her when he moved back down here from MN. She was the only person he talked to on that bus. She didn't know it, but she played an important role in both of our lives at totally separate times and made two kids feel a little less lonely.
We remained in contact mainly via social media over the years. We even had a virtual book club once and Stephanie went the extra mile composing the discussion questions. I could never have done such a thing myself. I could always count on her for book recommendations, or to discuss tv shows, or to share in our mutual appreciation of a certain movie/TV star. :)
I will certainly miss her. No one was like her. She was a steady presence in my life, always there in the background, and now there will forever be a hole where she once was.

Stephanie was one of the first people to welcome me when I started working at Blue Ridge. She was always so genuine and always asked about my girls. We had a good laugh about our kids being thumb suckers like we were! Her passion for teaching and coaching and her brilliant mind were evident and appreciated by all who had the honor of being taught by her or working alongside her. Stephanie would always do everything she could to help a student succeed, which I saw countless times during my years that I worked with her. Stephanie fought a hard battle and is one of the bravest people I have ever known. While I am sad she is gone, I am thankful she is healed and resting in the arms of our almighty healer!

Proverbs 27:9 says “A sweet friendship refreshes the soul.” When I think of Stephanie I remember the friendship, love and laughter as two best friends (Randara and Stephanie) shared a secret or made a plan to visit England. I also remember the tears as the dreams took different directions then the joy as love brought them back together. The day you went home to heaven was just another direction on the path of life, I can only imagine the laughter when once more two best friends are reunited in Heaven!
Love ya, Momma T

Words will never describe what Stephanie meant to me. As a child I was shy and making friends was not easy for me. God knew exactly who I needed. It was His plan that led to my family moving down the road from her in Wedgefield. Our house was not even set up before Stephanie and her sister Loren were there to scope out the new girl. The friendship was instant and what followed was a glorious example of what true kindred spirits are. Before either of us could drive we would walk down the road to the gas station to get a cream soda for her and a root beer for me. Once, on what was surely the hottest day of the summer, we walked all the way there just to realize that we had forgotten our money. Then we struggled making it all the way back to her house. Our absolute favorite activity was telling each other stories. Mine full of mystery and mayhem and her’s all history and romance. It was this bond that brought out the English Teacher and the Librarian that was inside us. Through the years we did what people do. We lived our lives separately, coming together from time to time and picking up as if the parting had never happened. She was my Maid of Honor and I hers. While it hurts to know I can’t just pick up a phone and call her, I know that someday she will meet me at the Gates. I thank God every day for Stephanie, my best friend, my kindred spirit. I love you.
