Obituary of Johnnie Husband Brown

Please share a memory of Johnnie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Johnnie Husband Brown - a devoted mother to four children, loving grandmother to nine, faithful friend to many, and a joyful Christian light to all - went to be with the Lord, on November 6, 2021, with her family by her side in Columbia, South Carolina. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 40 years, Thomas E. Brown Sr., and her siblings Maxine White and Sonny Husband. Johnnie was born on December 8, 1927 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to John D. and Bertie Husband. Johnnie was a long-time member and raised her family at Grace Baptist Church. She poured herself into her family and friends through her devout faith, numerous talents, and servanthood mindset. This model of godliness and family-first mindset has been instilled in not only her children, but in the lives of her grandchildren’s families as well. She selflessly volunteered at Tuomey Prisma Health for over 25 years where she was a faithful servant. Johnnie is survived by her four children: Judy Stern (Jack), Jane Lewis (Tom), Jho Ann Blanding (Wesley), and Thomas E. Brown, Jr. (Lynn); grandchildren: Dr. Amy Nolan-Roney (Brian), Brandi Stern, Wilson Clark (Jessica), Thomas E. Brown, III (Stephanie), Kelly Brown, Stacie Flippin (Donnie), Dr. Edward Thomas Lewis III, M.D. (Jeff), Lacey Stern (James), and Katie Kelly (Jonathan), and 14 great-grandchildren. Family, friends, and others whose lives were touched by Johnnie are invited to attend visitation at the home of her daughter, Jho Ann Blanding, 2889 Porcher Dr. from 5 to 7 PM Tuesday. A graveside service will be held for family and friends at 2 PM Wednesday in the Sumter Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Shumake officiating. Grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as Pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Sumter United Ministries at PO Box 1017, Sumter, SC 29151.
