Obituary of Shirley Nesbitt

Shirley Ardis Nesbitt, 79, widow of Harry Lee Nesbitt, died Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Sumter Health and Rehab in Sumter. Born in Baltimore, MD, she was a daughter of the late Richard Ardis and the late Esther Avins Ardis. Affectionately known as “Granny” by all who knew and loved her, she was a homemaker and housewife. She loved children and opened her home to many over the years as a caregiver. She had a passion for cooking, baking cakes and catering for weddings. She loved to crotchet and sew. She was a member of Alice Drive Baptist Church. She is survived by 3 daughters, Cheryl (Larry) and Terri Nesbitt of Sumter, Missy Thompson (Tommy) of Rock Hill; a daughter-in-law, Becky Nesbitt of Sumter; a stepson, Johnny White (Sarah) of Manning; special son, Ronnie Dodson (Kelly) of Sumter; 2 brothers, Don Ardis of Lexington, NC, Joe Ardis (Brenda) of Sumter; a sister-in-law, Linda Ardis of Sumter; grandchildren Ashlee Benton (Shea), Megan Nesbitt, Gracie Nesbitt, Kierra Foisey (Aaron), Zach Theisen (Stacey), Matthew Theisen, Shane Nesbitt, Noah Nesbitt; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Katie, Claudia, Cameron, Corey, Brayden, Chasen, Dawson (Amber Nesbitt); In addition to her parents and late husband, she was preceded in death by her sons, Harry Jr. and John Nesbitt; grandson, Christopher Nesbitt; sister-in-law Diane Ardis; sister Peggy Cochran; brothers John and Walter “Tootsie” Ardis; special sons, LeRoy Woods and Bo McIntosh. A graveside service will be held Friday at 1:30 P.M. at Sumter Cemetery with Rev. Clay Smith officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 12 Noon to 1 P.M. at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Zach Theisen, Matthew Theisen, Shane Nesbitt, Noah Nesbitt, Shea Benton, Aaron Foisey and Larry Truesdale.
