Obituary of J.C. Sanders, Sr.

James Cleveland “J.C.” Sanders, Sr., 81, husband of Sudie Jernigan Sanders was called home. Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at 1:45 A.M. while in the care of McLeod Hospice House in Florence. Born in Sumter, June 30, 1940, he was the youngest son of the late Jerry Cleveland Sanders and Mary Etta Davis Sanders. J. C. was saved and became a member of the Sumter First Pentecostal Holiness Church May 24, 1964 where he served the Lord as a Sunday School teacher for 55 years, a Deacon for 53 years and as an Elder since 2016. He liked to fish and collect antiques. Most of all he loved God, his family and his church. He retired after 44 years of employment at Korn Industries. The family would like to extend a special thank-you to McLeod Hospital and McLeod Hospice House of Florence, SC for the care given to J. C. Surviving are his wife of 59 ½ years; two sons, James Cleveland Sanders, Jr. (Michelle) and Curtis Durant Sanders (Annette); a sister, Christine Spigner (Charles); four grandchildren, Curtis N., Jerry, Catie, and Bryan Sanders; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Anna Bella Sanders; five brothers, Jerry, Sylvanus, Beauford, Fred, and Curtis Sanders; four sisters, Dessie Hill, Ruby Parker, Mary Eton and Angelia McElveen. Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Sunday at the Sumter First Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Paul Howell officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Autrell Davenport, Steve Bradham, Curtis Durant Sanders, Jerry A. Sanders, Dwayne Geddings, Melvin Coulter and Alan Hill. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jay Christmas and Jimmy Stanfield. The family will receive friends from 1 P.M. to 2 P.M. at the church on Sunday.
