Lucy Rose Puglia Carter, 74, widow of James Walter Carter, died Thursday, December 30, 2021, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital. Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Puglia Sr. and Harriett Eve Ballard Puglia. Mrs. Carter was a former member of Westside Baptist Church. She was a retired secretary with Sumter School District 17 and was also employed as a nursery worker at First Baptist Church for 15 years. Surviving are two daughters, Paige Michelle Carter and Ashley Nicole Carter; a brother, Joseph Puglia, Jr.; her stepmother, Betty Ryttenberg; a stepsister, Bunnie Hewitt; a stepbrother, Tommy Nichols all of Sumter and three grandfurbabies, Ally, Lilly and Toby. Graveside services will be held at 2 P.M. Monday, January 10, 2022, in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Jeremy Hansard officiating.
