Obituary of Jay Clifton Carter

Jay Clifton Carter, 66, husband of Anita Davis Carter, died Friday, February 4, 2022, at MUSC in Charleston, SC. Born in Georgetown, he was a son of Sandra Helen Brown Carter and the late James Marion Creel and was reared by Cleo Carter. Jay was a member of Christ Community Church where he was head of the greeting committee and was employed by Jones Buick GMC and the Jones family for over 30 years. He attended Clemson University and was an avid Tiger fan. Jay had an infectious smile and a wonderful personality. He was a true servant and loved the Sumter community. Surviving are his wife, the love of his life; along with his mother; one daughter, Kristin Carter; two brothers, Chris Carter and Pat Carter; two sisters, Kym Smith and Calle Finney (Mike); two aunts, Linda Gulledge and Joyce Edenfield; numerous cousins; step-son, Ryan Williams; step-daughter, Rachel Williams; and his dog, Sisco. Memorial Services will be held at 11 A.M. Wednesday at Christ Community Church with the Rev. Mark Yoder officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M.
