Obituary of Sonny Andrews, Jr.

Marvin Edward “Sonny” Andrews, Jr., 79, died Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at his residence. Born August 30, 1943, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Marvin E. Andrews, Sr. and Mary Frances Honeycutt Andrews. He was a charter member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. He proudly served our country in the 3rd Army in the 25th Infantry. Once out of the Army, he was employed as Assistant Manager of Kimbrell’s Furniture Company for over 30 years. In his later years, he retired after 25 years from Simpson’s Ace Hardware. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Sylvia D. Andrews; three children, Marvin E. “Mark” Andrews, III (Heather), Suzanne Andrews Cross (Jeff), Sylvia “LeAnne” Andrews Ison (Matt) all of Sumter; six grandchildren, Rebecca, Edward, Patrick, Shelby, Cayley and Nicholas; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sharon Andrews and Mary Dale Griffin (Doug). He was cherished by his loving family whom he loved dearly and his two dogs, Allie and Libby, his bird Ozzy, his cat, Lilly and he loved his “grand-dog” Winchester and all of his “grand-animals” including Poppy the pig. Graveside services will be held at 2 P.M. Sunday in the Sumter Cemetery with Rev. Paul Goff officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. Friday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
