Obituary of Margaret Newton White

Margaret Newton White, 94, died Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at Prisma Health Richland Hospital in Columbia. Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Roscoe Dewey Newton and Elizabeth Griffin Newton. Mrs. White was a graduate of Edmunds High School and attended Limestone College. She was a member of Alice Drive Baptist Church for over 50 years. She taught Sunday school and was a member of “The Praying Ladies”. She was a sustaining member of the Sumter Junior Welfare League, a member of the Sumter Art Association, the Tuesday Club That Meets on Thursday and also served as a Tuomey Hospital Volunteer. One of her many God-given gifts was that of a talented artist and cook. She shared those gifts with others through her paintings. Surviving are her children, Elizabeth Michaux White, Richard Michaux White, Jr. (Jean), Katharine White Rauch and Margaret White Carroll (Jimmy); grandchildren, Whitney Anderson Dunlap (Doc), Margaret Rauch Marsiglia (Mike), Richard Michaux White, III (Meg), Jean Marie Anderson Buffamoyer (John Eric), Anne Trent Rauch Bigby (James), William Belton White, Thomas Rivers Anderson (Chasity), Michaux Anderson Johnson; 8 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and her caregivers, Ruby James and Stella Haynsworth. She was predeceased by a brother, Roscoe Dewey Newton, Jr. Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Monday at Alice Drive Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Clay Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. Monday at Alice Drive Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Sumter Cemetery.
