Emily Carol Mimms 82, died Saturday, January 21, 2023, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, SC. Born January 16, 1941 in Sumter, she was the daughter of the late Charles Stewart Mason, Jr. and Emily Bolger Mason. In her early years she attended Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Carol was a dedicated, intelligent, compassionate registered nurse. She worked at our local Tuomey Hospital in the 1960’s and 1970’s and later retired as Nursing Home Administrator of Mariner Health Care in Sumter. She had a passion for caring for the elderly and for nature. Carol was a master gardener and a long-time member of Poinsett Garden Club. She won numerous ribbons for her abstract flower arrangements at the Sumter County Fair. She was also an avid Clemson fan. She is survived by a son, Thomas E. Mimms, Jr. (Tonya) of Sumter; two grandchildren, Tripp Baker (Kelly) of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Brandlyn Kakadelis (Karl) of Simpsonville, SC; five great-grandchildren whom she adored Knox Baker, Olivia Kakadelis, Ryan Kakaelis, Natalie Kakadelis and River Baker; a loving sister, Peggy Mason Gamble of Columbia; two beloved nieces, Laurie Brandes and Paige Edwards of Columbia; and a number of great-nieces and nephews . Carol enjoyed spending time with her family and chatting on the phone with her friend Judy Hatfield and her cousins Marie Hill and Bubba Bolger. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. Mimms and a daughter, Deborah Mimms Barnett. Memorial Services will be held at 1 P.M. Saturday, January 28, 2023, at Sumter First Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Greg Pressley officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service and other times at the home of her son, 760 Lakewood Drive. The family would like to thank Comfort Keepers for providing excellent care, especially Kami McLaughlin and also to McLeod Regional Medical Center for their compassion and care during her final days.
