What an honor to meet and serve Darrell and Iris in his final months. My heart breaks for your loss, but I rejoice knowing his life has touched so many. I have enjoyed my season with you, Darrell and Iris. Until we meet again <3. God bless and keep you.

As HR Director for the Waterwork’s for 15 years before retiring in 2011, I can only echo David’s words of how Darrell’s positivity and apt recognition of our employee’s capabilities, beyond their current job descriptions, helped him greatly when it was time to restructure the organization. I heard from Darrell twice after I moved to the Austin area, asking me to stretch my memory about a “way back in history” incident that I’d documented in a file. He genuinely thanked me, and I remember thinking, ‘how thoughtful and thorough was his decision-making process to call someone he’d not talked to in years’. I’d bet the MANY who knew him, would also agree! He was a pleasure to know and work with. To Iris, my heart goes out to you at this very difficult time.

When Darrell lived in Harlingen we had the privilege of listening to him perform with several bands. Our favorite song he sang was "Pretty Woman" by Roy Orbinson.

Darrell was one who had the ability to see things in a person that they could see themselves. He was a person who was willing to invest in others dispute their race, age or their educational back ground. He was a good example of a humility and patience . He was a person who built up people and never spoke bad of others. I will always be grateful for having the opportunity to know and work with him. I will always feel indebted to him for the opportunities he gave me and his willingness to invest in me. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. I feel blessed to have been a part of his life.
