She then obtained a degree from the SC Bankers School at USC in Columbia and then pursued a B.S. degree in business administration at the University of South Carolina-Sumter. She joined the National Bank of South Carolina in 1972, working in the operations division as a public relations specialist and cashier and processing supervisor. She remained with the bank for 27 years until she retired in July of 1999. She completed many courses offered by the American Institute of Banking and became the first woman President of the Pee Dee Chapter of the American Institute of Banking. From 1976 to 1978 she worked with the President of the bank, Marvin D. Trapp, was a member of the Professional Secretaries Association and was most proud of her time working with the folks at NBSC. When she retired from there, without taking a vacation, she walked straight over to Church of the Holy Comforter and became the Parish Administrator where she remained serving the church Altar Guild and as a Lay Eucharist minister. She helped prepare meals for the homeless and assisted the Cursillo movement. She was married to Kenneth E. McCoy formerly of Lancaster, PA and they had three children two of whom are surviving Glenn and Dean along with two grandchildren, Matthew and Charity who blessed her with five great-grandchildren, Dante, Chante and Rernia, Makih and Elijah. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara. She expressed fondly the privilege of being in her Grandfather’s house during her childhood on Hampton Street in Sumter and said that her happiest time of life was when she was serving her church-the Church of the Holy Comforter.
