Mrs. Patterson, my heart is broken for you and Laura Lynn. I would have attended Mr. Patterson’s service but was traveling abroad. Both of you have been so good to Chris, Christopher and me. Y’all are like family and I love you both. I’m sending much love and prayers for your peace. I’m so glad he is in heaven rejoicing with Robert! Rhonda

Shirley, we were greatly saddened to learn of Gene's passing. You both and Laura Lynn were such wonderful neighbors. Although it has been over 45 years since we left Sumter, it seems like only yesterday with all its lovely memories. Gene was such a giving, gentle, and caring soul. I remember the days when Gene and I (Don) shared a boat together and when we sold it, he insisted I keep all the money from the sale. Gene helped everyone and would go out of his way to make certain friends and neighbor's needs were met. Our prayers certainly go with you and your family. Without a doubt, he is now in his heavenly home.

Shirley, I was saddened when I heard of Gene's passing. I first met him when Billy Goodson introduced us some 31 years ago. I served with him on the Fair and Baseball Committees at Post 15. I was still on active duty at the time and we remained friends since then. I loved his sense of humor and he would always ask me how things were going at Shaw and when and where I would be traveling again. His love of God and Country were so admirable and I always looked up to him and saw him as a true role model for young Americans. Wherever he is now, I'm sure he's selling ballgame tickets, ringing a bell for charity and helping someone who needs a hand. It was an honr to have known him. Carol and I send our deepest sympathies and he will be in our prayers.

It's with a heavy heart that we acknowledge the absence of our dear friend Gene, whose kindness and wit permeated all the Pilot events. Both Paul and I shall yearn for Gene’s remarkable humor that made each meeting truly special. Although things will undoubtedly change, one can imagine him serenading Governors and Presidents in heaven. Our love goes out to you,Shirley- your family remains in our prayers during this challenging time. With much love Dorina and Paul

Shirley, my prayers and condolences go out to you and Laura Lyn and family. I know Gene will be missed by all. I'll always remember his phone voice; "Patterson speaking, may I help you?" He was certainly a fun person to work with, back in the good old days at Commercial Credit.
